Governor Reeves Signs Bills Strengthening State Cybersecurity and Countering Chinese Technological Threats

JACKSON, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves today announced that he signed two bills which strengthen the state of Mississippi’s cybersecurity efforts and counter Chinese technological threats.

Governor Reeves signed Senate Bill 2853 which prohibits state agencies from purchasing small, unarmed aircraft systems or drones manufactured by foreign entities, including China.

Governor Reeves Signs Bill Expanding Car Tag Authorization for Disabled Veterans

JACKSON, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves today announced that he signed Senate Bill 2187 which revises the disability rating requirements for certain motor vehicle and motorcycle license plates and tags which are authorized for disabled veterans.

“Any time the state of Mississippi can help our disabled veterans save money – that’s a worthy cause,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “Our disabled veterans sacrificed their own health to keep us safe. The least we can do is lower fees the government charges them. I was really excited to sign this bill because it means more money in the pockets of our disabled veterans. I’ll continue to do everything I can to support our service members.”

Governor Reeves Issues State of Emergency Following Severe Storms

JACKSON, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves today issued a State of Emergency for Pontotoc, DeSoto, Tishomingo, Lee, and Tunica Counties as well as other areas of the state affected by the severe storms which occurred across northern Mississippi beginning on March 31, 2023 and continuing through April 1, 2023.

The storms resulted in the death of one Mississippi resident. Current assessments show that 182 homes, 8 businesses, and 6 farms were damaged during the storms.
