JACKSON, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves today announced the appointment of Wayne Douglas Hollowell III of Olive Branch to the Office of the Circuit Judge for the 21st Circuit Court District, which covers DeSoto County. This appointment fills a new judicial office created by the Mississippi Legislature.
“Doug’s deep legal expertise, proven leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice makes him an outstanding choice for Circuit Judge,” said Governor Reeves. “His appointment reflects my ongoing mission to ensure that Mississippi’s judiciary is led by honorable and trusted stewards of the law.”
Doug has served as the Justice Court Judge for DeSoto County’s District 1 since 2021, earning re-election in 2023. He also serves as Judge Pro Tem for the municipalities of Horn Lake and Walls, and as Public Defender for Byhalia Municipal Court. His legal career showcases a wide range of courtroom experience, including serving as both a prosecutor and public defender, as well as a diverse civil litigation practice, including business litigation and personal injury defense.
Doug has litigated cases in more than 30 counties across Mississippi and successfully argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also has earned recognition as a Top Under 40 Attorney by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
Hollowell earned a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law and B.A. from the University of Mississippi.
Hollowell’s term will begin on September 1, 2025, and will fill the remainder of the four-year term ending on January 4, 2027.
