JACKSON, Miss. – Governor Tate Reeves today announced the appointment of Damon R. Stevenson of Clinton to the Office of the Circuit Judge for the 7th Circuit Court District, which covers Hinds County. This appointment fills a new judicial office created by the Mississippi Legislature.
“Damon’s unwavering commitment to justice and steadfast dedication to upholding the rule of law make him exceptionally well-qualified to serve as Circuit Judge,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “As governor, I will continue to appoint principled and proven leaders like Damon to ensure Mississippi’s judiciary remains in trusted hands.”
Stevenson has been a practicing attorney since 2008, when he began his career with the United States District Court in the Probation Office. Additionally, in his role as Special Master for Mental Health in the Hinds County Chancery Court, he presides over court hearings, issuing rulings that lead to the best outcomes for individuals in need of mental health treatment. Stevenson’s well-rounded legal career sets a solid foundation for his term as Circuit Judge.
Stevenson earned a J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law and B.S. from Tougaloo College.
Stevenson’s term will begin on September 1, 2025, and will fill the remainder of the four-year term, ending on January 4, 2027.
